IS CHIROPRACTIC RIGHT FOR ME?

Many people incorrectly believe chiropractic is simply the “cracking” or manipulation of the vertebral joints, commonly call the “adjustment”.  While it is that, this is an often used technique in chiropractic.  Chiropractors actually use a much broader approach in treating patients.  Depending on the patient, approaches such as improving flexibility, stretching, massage, and even strengthening are carefully selected for the patient, making their treatment not only safe, but truly helpful.  This makes chiropractic an excellent choice for many patients as well as a great complement to traditional health care.

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

I am asked this question a lot, and the answer is no. Some needles may be felt more than others, and if there is pain it is no more than a mosquito bite.  After the needle is inserted then your body’s Qi is stimulated and this can feel electrifying or dull or even distending but not painful.

WHAT IS TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a 3,000 year old medicine which focuses on treating the body as a whole and not just symptoms.  The theory is that when there is illness there is an imbalance and once the body is harmonized the illness will be gone.  Once a diagnosis is made a treatment plan follows, which may include more than just acupuncture.  TCM is not just acupuncture it encompasses Chinese medicine, tuina, cupping, guasha, and eastern nutritional counseling.  TCM can help with many ailments from pain to inflammation, from post op recovery to gynecological problems, the list can go on and on.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE FIRST VISIT?

During the visit, the patient is asked numerous questions and the tongue is looked at and the pulses are felt and then a plan is formed.  The patient should wear loose clothes in order to get to the body and then be ready to relax and feel better.
